What makes up the best ultralight backpacking chair? If the best backpacking chair simply means the most comfortable regardless of weight, there are a lot of options. However, if you are looking for an ultralight backpacking chair, that’s a whole different ballgame and is exactly why I set out to do this review. Ultralight backpacking chairs are a conflict in that you want comfort and stability, but with an ultralight backpacking chair you typically start to lose a little of both.

There are a number of factors to consider when selecting the best ultralight backpacking chair for your specific needs. Weight, stability, seat size, height, and recline angle are all things we noted while testing these 10 best ultralight backpacking chairs. Which is most important to you will guide which one you select. For this project, we went out and picked up every model we could find in the 1- 2 lb class as one pound was about as light as we could find out there. After testing each of these 1-2 lb backpacking chairs, we came away with the following primary factors that we took note of in making a selection:

Each of these played a large roll in the overall comfort and usability of the chairs. As a general rule, the lighter weight 1 lb chairs tended to not be as comfortable and flexed a lot more than some of the heavier 2 lb chairs. The leg design played a huge roll in their stability as we generally found the chairs with a side to side supported leg design to be overall more stable than a front to back supported leg design.

Another massive aspect to the comfort of the chairs was the recline angle. Some recline WAY back, which wasn’t our favorite, and some sit up more, which we all found to be more pleasant and comfortable. One even has an adjustment to change the angle of the back of the seat (the Nemo Moonlight) which is super cool.

Check out our huge lineup of backpacking gear reviews!
