Over the past two hunting seasons, this Meindl Vakuum Hunter review proved that you don’t have to spend top dollar to get premium boots. They have proven to be a dependable option for long hikes and hunting trips. When it comes to hunting boots, reliability matters more than anything. Cold mornings, wet conditions, steep terrain, and long miles have a way of exposing weaknesses in footwear quickly, but that was not the case with these Meindl Vakuum Hunter boots.
I’ve worn these boots extensively during late-season rifle hunts for deer and elk in Idaho and Colorado, where terrain is rugged and conditions can change fast. Between preseason conditioning hikes and time spent hunting, I’ve put approximately 100 miles on these boots across two seasons. They’ve been my primary hunting boots, not something I wore once or twice for a review.
The Meindl MFS-Vakuum Hunter boot isn’t a lightweight, minimalist boot, but it isn’t supposed to be. Instead, they prioritize comfort, durability, waterproof performance, and long-term support, all while offering an incredible value for a high end boot, somehow staying under the $350 price point. That’s pretty insane for a full grain leather boot in today’s market. If you are looking for a durable boot that are reliable these could be for you.

Fit and Sizing: What to Know Before You Buy
Fit is one of the most critical aspects of any hunting boot, and it’s also where many boots fall short. The Meindl MFS-Vakuum® Hunter boots runs about a half size large, so I recommend sizing down from your normal boot size.
Once sized correctly, the fit is excellent. One of the standout features for me was the slightly wider toe box compared to many other hunting boots I’ve worn. The additional room is nice if you don’t like your toes being cramped, it helped reduce fatigue on long hikes and steep descents.
That extra space also helped with circulation, which may have contributed to how warm my feet stayed in cold conditions. The fit never felt sloppy or loose—just comfortable and accommodating.
Break-In Period and Out-of-the-Box Comfort
Full-leather boots often come with a reputation for long, painful break-in periods, but that wasn’t my experience here. I broke these boots in over eight to nine training hikes before the season, and they never caused a blister.
Even during break-in, they felt supportive and comfortable. By the time hunting season rolled around, they felt fully broken in and ready for long days in steep terrain.
Comfort and Support for Long Days in the Mountains
Comfort during this Meindl Vakuum Hunter review truly stood out. While these boots are slightly heavier than some modern lightweight options, but surprisingly lightweight for a full leather boot. At less than 2lb’s per boot (3.87lbs per pair), that’s impressive.
9-INCH BOOT HEIGHT & ANKLE SUPPORT
The 9-inch height provides excellent ankle support, which was noticeable when side-hilling, climbing steep terrain, and navigating uneven ground. The added height also does a great job of keeping rocks, dirt, and debris out of the boot.
MEINDL MEMORY FOAM SYSTEM (MFS)
Meindl’s Memory Foam System continues to conform to your foot the more you wear the boots. Over time, they became even more comfortable without losing structure or support. After multiple consecutive days of hiking and hunting, my feet still felt good at the end of the day.
Insoles and Custom Footbeds
The boots come with Meindl’s Air-Active® footbeds, which I used briefly. Like most factory insoles across any brand, they’re serviceable but nothing special.
I eventually replaced them with custom Sheep Feet insoles, which noticeably improved comfort and support—especially on longer hunts. That said, the boots were already comfortable even before making that upgrade.

Warmth Performance in Cold Weather Without Insulation
One of the most impressive aspects of the Meindl Vakuum Hunter boots is how well it performed in cold weather despite having no insulation. I wore these boots in temperatures ranging from 15°F to 50°F, and my feet never got cold.
I used a few different socks during these hunts and training hikes:
- Meindl wool socks worked extremely well and helped regulate temperature throughout the season.
- First Lite wool socks, which are thicker and warmer, were especially effective later in the season during Colorado hunts.
This combination allowed me to stay warm while still benefiting from the breathability and versatility of a non-insulated boot.

Late-season hunts often mean snow, slush, and water crossings, and waterproof performance is critical. The GORE-TEX® lining in the Meindl Vakuum Hunter boots performed exactly as they should.

I stepped into fairly deep creeks multiple times throughout my hunts, often without meaning to, and my feet stayed completely dry every time. Wet grass during the early mornings, snow melt, and sloppy conditions were never an issue.
For hunters who routinely deal with unpredictable weather and water crossings, the GORE-TEX® waterproofing performs exactly as it should.
Durability After 100 Miles: Meindl Vakuum Hunter Review
Durability is another area where these boots shine. After roughly 100 miles of combined training and hunting use, they’re holding up extremely well. The rubber rand hasn’t started to peal, the seams are all still perfectly in tact, and they show no excess wear anywhere.
RUBBER RAND AND HEEL PROTECTION
One of my favorite features is the full rubber band that wraps around the lower portion of the boot. It protects the leather from rocks and abrasion and keeps the boots from getting scuffed up during rocky climbs and descents.
This rubber protection extends higher up the back of the heel for added durability.
OUTSOLE WEAR
The Vibram® Multigriff outsole is still in good condition, showing only minor wear after two seasons. Overall construction feels solid and confidence-inspiring, and these boots feel like they’ll continue performing well for many more miles.
Traction on Rocky and Mountain Terrain
Traction was solid overall, but this is one area where I wasn’t completely sold.
The Vibram® Multigriff outsole performed well in most conditions, but I personally liked the tread pattern found on the Meindl Air Revolution Alpine 1.5 Light Hiker. I felt that boot offered better traction, particularly on rocky terrain.
It’s worth noting that the Meindl Air Revolution® Alpine 1.5 Boots are marketed more toward hiking rather than hunting, but the difference in traction was noticeable in few situations. That said, the Meindl Vakuum Hunter boots never felt unsafe or slipped excessively and performed reliably in the majority of conditions I encountered.
Lace System and Ease of Use: Meindl Vakuum Hunter Review
One design feature I really appreciated was the lace system. There are fewer fixed eyelets before the locking lace points, which makes it much easier to get your foot in and out of the boot.
Many boots extend fixed eyelets higher toward the ankle, making it more difficult to put them and off—especially in cold conditions. This design choice made putting these boots on and taking them off noticeably easier.
Minor Issues Noted in the Field: Meindl Vakuum Hunter Review
There were a few instances where I experienced hot spots on the inside of my heel, but this only occurred after multiple long days of hiking. Even then, the hot spots were minor enough that I never needed to use moleskin or Leukotape.
Outside of that, there wasn’t much to complain about.
What I Liked: Meindl Vakuum Hunter Review
During my time testing the Meindl Vakuum boots a number of things stood out to me that I loved about them. Good boots can mean the difference between a great hunt or hike, and being downright miserable. Because of that, fit is the most important thing and the first factor to make sure you get right. The rest of these things come second, but are still important:
- Excellent long-term comfort with minimal break-in
- Cold-weather performance despite no insulation
- Outstanding waterproofing
- Lightweight for a full leather boot
- Durable rubber rand and reinforced heel
- Slightly wider toe box for comfort and circulation
- Easy on/off lace design
- Strong ankle support with 9-inch height
- Durable Outsole
- High-quality construction at an incredible price
What I Didn’t Like: Meindl Vakuum Hunter Review
While I like most things about the Meindl Vakuum hunter boots, but there were few things that I walked away with not loving.
- Tread pattern isn’t my favorite compared to other Meindl boot models
- Runs about half a size large
- Minor heel hot spots after multiple long days
Final Verdict: Meindl Vakuum hunter Review
There isn’t much to dislike about the Meindl Vakuum Hunter boots. It’s a comfortable, durable, and extremely well built hunting boot that excels at everything from early season archery to late-season hunts in rugged, mountainous terrain. Being that they are a full leather boot, I found myself using them more during the mid to late season months because a full leather boot is a bit warmer than synthetics.
While it’s slightly heavier than lightweight alternatives, the comfort, support, waterproofing, and long-term durability make the extra weight worth it. At around $340, it delivers premium performance at a price point that stays well below most comparable boots.
For hunters looking for a non-insulated, late-season boot that can handle cold weather, steep terrain, and wet conditions, the Meindl MFS-Vakuum® Hunter boot is a proven option worth serious consideration.
