Selecting the right pair of tactical pants when it comes to comfort and durability was extremely important to me. Enter the 5.11 Tactical Stryke pants. With so many brands claiming versatility, I had a hard time knowing which ones would best prepare me for real-world obstacles.
I was gearing up for long shifts and wanted a pair of tactical pants that would allow mobility, high-level performance, and functionality — all while giving me the comfort I needed during those long days. After all, these pants would carry my essentials, withstand constant abrasion, and adapt to all sorts of high-demand environments without failing at the seams. I had high expectations for these pants, expecting durability under stress, mobility under load, and high performance under the constant pressures of the job.
This review cuts through the clutter to examine if this product genuinely rises to operational standards required for first responders. Through a series of evaluations and experiences, such as friction exposure, rapid positional transitions, gear-loaded pockets, and exposure to adverse weather, I evaluated and critiqued these pants down to the seam.
This assessment provides the clarity needed to make an informed decision on whether these pants are right for you and your mission.
Materials & Design – 5.11 Tactical Stryke Pants
MATERIALS
The 5.11 Tactical Stryke pants are made of 65% polyester / 35% cotton Flex-Tac® mechanical-stretch ripstop and feature a DWR CO finish. The fabric is slightly stiff, but the material is not rough or abrasive. These pants provide excellent comfort, as well as being water-repellent due to the built-in DWR CO finish.
DESIGN/FIT
The 5.11 Tactical Stryke pants pants are designed with a fixed waistband and articulated knees with knee pad pockets which give me the ability to work on my knees (which I was a lot as a first responder) without tearing the fabric at the knees. These pants come in a 7 7/8-inch rise, 8 3/4-inch leg opening, and 31-inch inseam, which fit me perfectly. There are 12 pockets sized for tactical use that are extremely useful when you have a lot of gear that you need to carry around.
These pants have perfectly angled cargo pockets with distinctive oblique pleats and exclusive rounded corners. They are designed with original arc stitching. There is also bar tacking at major seams and stress points, implemented into the design to enhance durability.
What I Liked – 5.11 tactical Stryke Pants Review
FIT
As a female first responder, I was looking for a pair of tactical pants that were both comfortable and durable, but that also fit my specific body type well. The 5.11 Stryke Tactical Pants were clearly designed for both function and comfort as they stand out in the world of performance gear. These pants offer a secure and snug fit, all while being custom-tailored to move with your body. Whether you’re a firefighter, police officer, EMS provider, or someone who loves the outdoors, these pants are designed to allow complete mobility while comfortably fitting without a belt.
DURABILITY
The most appealing aspect of these pants, is the durability. The 5.11 Stryke Tactical Pants are designed to withstand heavy use, as the fabric is strong, durable, and abrasion resistant. This makes them excellent for rough environments. They won’t tear, stain easily, develop holes, or wear out. I spend a lot of time on my knees as an EMS provider, and these pants were consistent and clearly designed to maintain their durability and remain in excellent shape, which will save me money in the long run.

Pockets

My favorite part about the 5.11 Stryke Tactical Pants is their large and small cargo pockets. These pockets were made to hold many vital accessories. As an EMS provider, I was required to carry a lot of equipment, and all the pockets on these pants make this super easy. I also love the back pocket placement. The pockets are designed to naturally create a subtle lift effect for a flattering look. These pants enhance your natural curves, give you a sculpted appearance, and make you feel comfortable in your body, no matter your shape.
Water Repellent
These pants also repel dirt, blood, moisture, and any other bodily fluids you may come in contact with as a first responder or outdoorsman, due to their water-repellent finish. Since I’m in a profession where grime, bodily fluids, and blood are inevitable, these pants were well-suited to my specific needs as a first responder. I love the material these are made out of. They are comfortable while providing necessary functionality and supporting the success of my daily tasks.
Colors
The color options are subtle and versatile, which makes them perfect for both tactical missions and casual wear. I love wearing these pants to work, but they can also be paired nicely with a T-shirt or hoodie, making them stylish whether I’m at work or home.

I bought more colors to wear to church, family events, at the shooting range, or even on a date. They give me the comfort I desire while enhancing my curves and making me feel confident.
Sizing
The sizing was pretty accurate and didn’t run too big. Depending on the brand, I am typically a 24/34 or a size 0 and always need an extra-long length for my slender legs. I own all of my 5.11 Tactical pants in a size 0, and they fit me perfectly.
What I disliked – 5.11 Tactical Stryke pants
Low Rise
These pants are extremely low-rise, as they sit below the natural waistline. This offers a trendy and casual fit, but can cause insecurity around the lower abdomen if you want extra security (such as high-rise pants) to smooth out the lower tummy above the waistband. This is one of my only complaints- I wish they weren’t so low rise, and just a little bit higher to achieve a flatter lower abdomen.
Hand Pockets
The pockets designed for the hands pooch out a little bit when standing and don’t lay as flat and snug to the body as I would like. This issue isn’t significant since most of the time these pockets won’t be visible.
Conclusion – 5.11 Tactical Stryke Pants Review
These pants are my favorite part of the EMS uniform. They are durable, comfortable, and cater to all my personal needs as a first responder, outdoor lover, and comfort-seeking individual. If you love the outdoors, serve as a first responder, or just seek comfortable and stylish attire, the 5.11 Tactical Stryke Pants are for you.
